New feature in dnswl.org SelfService - Add more domains

Dear dnswl.org <http://dnswl.org/> users,

A lot of users have been asking us why it is not possible to add more domains to your DNSWL Id. Some even tried workarounds (claiming lots of additional DNSWL Ids etc). From the point of view of the dnswl.org <http://dnswl.org/> team, the answer to „let me add more domains“ was usually a variation of „there is little use for domains in an IP-based whitelist.“

No that is not strictly true. Having more data, and especially domain names as „trackable“ data, is basically a good thing.

Therefor, if you have claimed your own DNSWL Id, you can now add more domains to it. For each domain you need to prove ownership (or administrative control, to be more precise), either by responding to emails sent to a well-known contact or a contact listed in the whois of the domain, or by setting a specific DNS record (_token._dnswl.<your domain>). That is basically the same procedure as we use to verify the claim for a DNSWL Id.

We plan to make more use of the domain name information in the future, and possibly to allow users to provide more fine-grained data.

Please let us know if the current approach works for you — or not :)

Thanks a lot,
— Matthias, for the dnswl.org <http://dnswl.org/> project
